Recovered from Eye infection and KY Concert..

Hi folks,

The past few days been a rather busy days for me. Monday, my eyes are bit swollen. At first, I thought it was due to the sudden drop of my phone on my eyes on the night before(by Shone).

Then I realised nope, it was dropped on the right eye and not the left(swollen) eye.

Then Tuesday, redness found on the left eye. Took half day off to see doctor and rest my eye as I got an important meeting with client on Wednesday.

Brave myself to meet the client on Wednesday despite issued mc from doctor...and went home to rest after the meeting in the evening.

Thursday, went back for checkup again as instructed by the doctor. Was given another day off to rest and heal. I will post up what I did to fasten the healing of my eye infection in my next post! My eye is fine the next day..so total of 3 days it tooked to heal! Rather fast compared to previous conjunctivitis attack and spread in my family!

Friday, up at 5.30am to prepare concert food for KY. Fried 3 packets of Bee Hoon.

TGIF...looking forward for weekend!

Have a good weekend folks! Stay healthy!

Cheers!

Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Hi folks!

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

I like to share with you Cancer Prevention Tips from Environmental Working Group(EWG website):

EWG's Cancer Prevention Tips
1. Filter your tap water. Common carcinogens in tap water include arsenic, chromium, and chemical byproducts that form when water is disinfected. A simple carbon tap-mounted filter or pitcher can help reduce the levels of some of these contaminants. If your water is polluted with arsenic or chromium, a reverse osmosis filter will help.

2. Seal outdoor wooden decks and play sets. Those built before 2005 are likely coated with an arsenic pesticide that can stick to hands and clothing.

3. Cut down on stain- and grease-proofing chemicals. "Fluorochemicals" related to Teflon and Scotchgard are used in stain repellants on carpets and couches and in greaseproof coatings for packaged and fast foods. To avoid them, avoid greasy packaged foods and say no to optional stain treatments in the home.

4. Stay safe in the sun. More than one million cases of skin cancer are diagnosed in the United States each year. To protect your skin from the sun's cancer-causing ultraviolet (UV) radiation, seek shade, wear protective clothing and use a safe and effective sunscreen.

5. Cut down on fatty meat and high-fat dairy products. Long-lasting cancer-causing pollutants like dioxins and PCBs accumulate in the food chain and concentrate in animal fat.

6. Eat EWG's Clean 15. Many pesticides have been linked to cancer. Eating from EWG's Clean 15 list of the least contaminated fruits and vegetables will help cut your pesticide exposures. (And for EWG's Dirty Dozen, buy organic.) Learn more at EWG's Shopper's Guide to Pesticides.

7. Cut your exposures to BPA. Bisphenol A (BPA) is a synthetic estrogen found in some hard plastic water bottles, canned infant formula, and canned foods. Some of these chemicals cause cancer in lab studies. To avoid them, eat fewer canned foods, breast feed your baby or use powdered formula, and choose water bottles free of BPA. Get EWG's tips to avoid it.

8. Avoid carcinogens in cosmetics. Use EWG's Skin Deep cosmetic database to find products free of chemicals known or suspected to cause cancer. When you're shopping, don't buy products that list ingredients with "PEG" or "-eth" in their name (chemicals often tainted with contaminants linked to cancer).

9. Read the warnings. Some products list warnings of cancer risks -- read the label before you buy. Californians will see a "Proposition 65" warning label on products that contain chemicals the state has identified as cancer-causing.

For full articles and links to related pdf or articles, visit to EWG website!

Cheers and stay cancer-free folks!

Yummylicious Avocado Dip Usage

Hi folks!

I have some remaining Avocado dips(opps...only managed to capture the picture at one last yummy bite :P..sorry...) I made for kids (using mashed avocado, mayonnaise, sprinkle of black sesame seeds, white sesame seeds, flaxseed powder, wheatgerm) the other day.

Added some cereals for breakfast one day...taste yummy! Now I know why Avocado dips are also used for Tortilla chips in some recipes! Simply yummy!

Enjoy the goodness and rich Omega 3 in Avocado!

Have you tried bringing your kids to a cinema?

Hi folks!

I wonder if you guys faced the same situation as I am. Imagine this, while dating, married without kids, my hubby and I would go to cinema once a week without fail. After having kids, it is harder to sneak out for a cinema unless of course we bring our kids along. In fact, we love to and look forward to bring them along with us.

Now, this may be a blunder, but when is the first time you took your kids to cinema? How old is your child when you first took him/her to a movie? I actually brought my daughter to a cinema; watching Spiderman with my family when she is barely 6 months old. I did not know then it was not such a good idea for her hearing. I was feeling guilty later on when I heard my friend telling me that it is not good for their hearing and best to bring them after they are 3. Opps...

So, for my second child, I only brought him to a movie when he is almost 3. Yep..again...hehe..slightly earlier than what was advised by the friend. We went to watch Karate Kids with my hubby, 4-year old daughter and my 2+ year old son.

Indeed, my daughter enjoyed the whole experience, munching her popcorns and laughing along at the funny scenes whereas my son kind of intimidated by the loud speakers and sounds. I was putting my palm over her ears at the beginning of the show until he began to feel more relax and started laughing along.

So, I wonder what is the good age to bring children to a movie at the cinema or movie theatre?

But one thing for sure, I think there are some steps we could do in advance in order to ensure a smoother movie-going session with our kids:
  1. Ensure the movie title is suitable for them. No horror, "sexy", explosives and violent scenes; especially no loud bombings type which might scares them.
  2. Bring along their water bottle and their little snacks(some places allows such allowance for children) especially you cannot find anything suitable to purchase at the cinema.
  3. Bring a jacket and some small blanket to cover them or just let them hug along to feel more comfy.
  4. Be flexible and be ready to run out half-way during the movie.
  5. Educate them not to laugh or talk too loudly during the movie; yet bring along your adventurous mood not to over-reprimand them...it really spoilt the mood....( so it really helps if you go to movies which is more of a family-genre so that the audience belongs almost the same category whereby laughter and occasional loud questions asked during the movie session is tolerated)
Do you have any other tips to share?

Hope to hear from you!

Cheers!

Do pay them a visit folks, if you are a passionate parenting blogger/reader too!

Rush-y Hour

Hi folks!

The other day I was thinking about how our life is so rush and hectic these days…especially for parents. I often work on Auto-pilot mode; at times I cannot recall whether I have switch off the
gas stove, where I parked my car, etc...

One morning, I overheard on the radio that a schoolboy overslept in the bus and did not get down at his stop. When he woke up and finally realized he missed his destination, he quickly jump out of the bus, but in such a haste, he actually hit himself on the "electrical post" and died after sent to the hospital. Such a pity…

It reminded me how often we are always in the rush and end up risking our life. We ought to drive safely and steadily. Slow and steady win the race.

And this reminded me of another event too. It happened to my babysitter's hubby; who was involved in two road accidents and now had to rely on a walking cane whenever he goes. Thus, my son, Shone, is very interested
at these Walking canes. He would often fetch the walking cane to the babysitter's hubby.

Nowadays, there are so many types of walking canes available. Look at this Tuxedo Walking canes ; looks like those we watch in some Hong Kong dramas. Shone would certainly show this walking cane to the babysitter's hubby.

Enjoy viewing this fashionable walking cane and stay safe on the road folks!

Cheers!

What I did on 10.10.10?

Hi folks!

Yesterday was 10.10.10, a special date that many couples chose to register their marriage. Are you one of them?

And, some choose to deliver their babies via c-section on 10.10.10 too!

Now, I did not do any of both..of course..not eligible to do the first; neither have the intention to do the second one..haha...

But, I did have a group of teenagers came to my place for swimming and small gathering....their youth, cheerfulness and of course perspective on life reminded me when I was their age...full of zest and enthusiasm...carefree age...

I prepared some simple dishes which consist of fried bee hoon, homemade-sushi, red bean soup, fried seaweed tofu, tempe, mango juice and DH bought a nice pot of curry(yep...confession here...I can't cook nice curry .. :P mine taste like those instant noodle curry haha....so to save the hassle and failed prototype...DH decided to buy it at nearby vegetarian restaurant...hehe..).

When one of the teenager called me "Auntie", I was like "Hey, don't call me Auntie lar..."...still not used to it..haha..have to admit I am really getting older.....but I don't feel old just yet...

It is a nice day allright! Will try some other dishes when the next gathering opportunity arises to wake that Cooking Giant within me..haha..

Cheers!
(Sorry, was busy cooking, chatting and eating..no pictures taken... :P )

Winter Country Fashion Fun

Hi folks!

One of the fun thing staying in winter country is we get to experience changing scenery, weather and of course; get to wear different types of attires according to each season. It is fun observing the different fashion, design and technology applied in making such clothing that fits different seasons of the year.

When I first went to Taiwan during their winter season (well, no snow there but it was around 9 degree Celsius when I went there in year 1997; their coldest winter ever then), I learned about such fashion item call thermal clothing. When you wear such clothing as innerwear, you are able to withstand the cold weather without covering in thick and many layers of clothing. So you avoid turning out to look like a huge balloon. In fact, after wearing the thermal clothing, I managed to just put on a layer of jeans plus a T-shirt and jacket. It makes me feels comfy and not bulky which enable me to travel and conduct my sight-seeing with less “disturbance” or uneasiness.

Now, coming to my dream to travel to another country with season with my family (including my kids), I began to look around for thermal clothing for my whole family (as the one I got was a borrowed one last round).

Now, folks, where are those nice places which you normally get your thermal clothing? Any sizes meant for children?

I hope I get a chance to get some for my kids and hubby for our next winter country trip ...soon..I hope...

For those of you who are curious how a thermal clothing looks like, actually it looks very much like our stretchy “pyjamas” or sporting clothes (see picture below) but the quality of the cloth they used to make such thermal clothing is different.

Cheers!

Scouting Children Shoes

Hi folks!

I am not sure if you faced the same predicament as I did. For Chinese, we believe that we should only get a baby shoes for the baby when they reach one year old. But that also doesn’t guarantee that I would find perfect shoes that is gentle on their feet; provides sufficient protection on their toes and of course the varieties too.

When I first looking for shoes for Shone and KY when they reached one-year old, wow..it was indeed a very difficult task. It is not easy to find the perfect shoes that fit their feet comfortably. Hubby and I went scouting at many different places at the shopping malls ; looking for the perfect shoes. In fact, I actually bought one which I thought could fit yet had to returned as the sole was either too hard; or the size is wrong. As both my kids have rather “fleshy”; “baby-fat” feet, those tiny-weeny shoes simply won’t fit. Yet those bigger ones are too hard! Imagine my son, Shone, started with size “5” as his first walking shoes at one year old!!

Recently I come across a particular site that has Baby Shoes  that fits this criteria. It has such great varieties of design and some of them looks exactly like what I have worn when I was a kid.

I simply love such shoes because it is very durable and very practical to wear to many different functions. Actually, choosing the right shoes is very important not only to adults but to children too.

Below is a video that illustrate the measure a right fitting shoes.

Hope you learn a thing or two from this video :)

Happy Baby Shoes scouting!

Cheers!

Budding Inquisitive Shone

Hi folks!

Howdy!

Lately, I have noticed Shone started his inquisitive stage....while KY is all the time still asking me lotssa questions.

The difference now is...both of them started shooting me different sets of questions and expected me to answer them first!...Imagine the tension and confusion I had.. :P Like taking examination lol :P

Below are some of the random questions shot by Shone every now and then...

Q: Mummy, why daddy need to go back to work.

Q: Mummy, why did you packed your lunch using tupperware?

Q: Mummy, why today(a working day for me) we cannot go yum-cha(drink tea or sight-seeing)?

Q: Mummy, can we go swimming today...now? (at 12 midnite!!!)

Q: Mummy, why jie jie still sleeping? (when she supposed to wake up for school)

Q: Mummy, why I cannot eat ice-cream now? (at 5am in the morning)

Q: Mummy, is that (taxi) a police car?

Q: Mummy, why I cannot watch hi-5 now? (when his dad is watching news at night)

....

...

...

endless questions raining on me :P

What about yours? Do u get as many questions as I did from a 2 yr + inquisitive child of yours too?

Happy Answering!

Lovely bags at Gin&Jacqie

Hi folks!

Recently I have been shopping for handbag as the one and only one favourite handbag of mine(a gift from hubby) is spoilt. The handle was broken and not able to mend at all...a good time to get a new bag.

As I shop around..I bump into these lovely bags from Gin & Jacqie:
(Picture below taken from www.ginjacqie.com/my)

STYLISH ELAINE (S&B)

I just love the way the bag is designed. Spacious, stylish, with zipper plus a compartment for water bottle! Perfectly match what I want in a bag.

When I scout a bag, I want it with zips as I have witness myself how someone lost her hard-earned salary to a pick-pocket from her unzip handbag!!!

And whenever I go meetings, I will bring along my water bottle. So this bag really suits me!

Another Gin & Jacqie bag that I love and have been using is this:

REVERSE ME ORGANIZE JACQ

I put this lovely organiser into my handbag. Now it is a breeze when i need to find my access cards, keys, travel size hand sanitiser, etc! This is the bag that I heart it so much and would recommend to all of you!

Now, seriously moms out there! You really should check out Gin&Jacqie and get their lovely and well-designed bag. Seems that it is designed with women and hot mama in mind! See all the compartments, striking colors and size..makes me drooling!

Another good news here!

Gin&Jacqie and MomsBloggerPlanet is organising a contest where you could win these lovely bags(see pictures blow)!

Drooling already??? To learn more about how to join this contest, hop over to MomsBloggerPlanet contest page here.

Simple steps like what I did:

Write a BLOG POST about:
  • TWO (2) Gin&Jacqie bags that you really love and why you want it so much
  • WHY moms should get a bag from Gin&Jacqie

Happy Contesting!

Cheers!
