Holiday is here, looking for part-time job?

Hi folks!

I used to spend my holidays working part-time to earn some extra cash to spend on items which I didn't want to get my parents to fork out from their wallets.

Things like school trip (which normally cost more than MYR50 just for the transport fees alone), a new walkman(yea..back in my time, mp3 player is not in the picture yet), holiday English 1119 tutoring(yep, I was the odd one in my class who do not go for attend tuition classes after school, but just want to check out how it feels to be in a tuition centre as well as to prepare myself for the English 1119 exam for the coming year, I only attended 1 month+ I think before I stopped and went back to self-study), and reference books during college/uni. time (mind you those books aren't cheap!!! Cost at least MYR60++ each).

Now holiday coming soon, I bet some of you are also looking for part-time jobs? My bbsitter just asked me about it sometime ago.

Today I saw some posting at TheStarJob.com. You may like to check out the part-time jobs available there!

Cheers and wish all of you have a fruitful holiday!

iPad finally launch in Malaysia today!

Hi folks!

Finally...iPad is available for Malaysia's consumer starting today!! Yey!!!

Maxis Bhd said it was offering data plans for iPad with Wi-Fi + 3G in Malaysia from today. All data plans would be available without a contract and users would have the freedom to activate or cancel a plan at any time, the company said in a statement here yesterday.

1Malaysia Netbook price capped at RM1,000

Hi folks!

Have you heard the news?

THE price of netbooks under the 1Malaysia Netbooks Computer Initiative has been capped at RM1,000 each!!!

(On TheStar Online here)

And this sum was not only for the computers, but also for the software and six months' broadband subscription.

This is a good news indeed!

Just wonder which group of Malaysians will benefit from this initiative?

Anyone knew about this? Please share :)

Thanks and Cheers for the day!

Conversation between Pencil and Eraser ..(touching story)

Hi folks!

Howdy?! I receive this lovely story in my mailbox one day and find it so touching...sharing it with all parents and children here....Read, Enjoy, and reflect....then....pass it on...

Thanks to all Parents...for the sacrifices you made out of love, with no strings attached!

Cheers!

Conversation between Pencil and Eraser

Pencil: I'm sorry....
Eraser: For what? You didn't do anything wrong.
Pencil: I'm sorry cos you get hurt bcos of me. Whenever I made a mistake, you're always there to erase it. But as you make my mistakes vanish, you lose a part of yourself. You get smaller and smaller each time.
Eraser: That's true. But I don't really mind. You see, I was made to do this. I was made to help you whenever you do something wrong. Even though one day, I know I'll be gone and you'll replace me with a new one, I'm actually happy with my job. So please, stop worrying. I hate seeing you sad. :)

I found this conversation between the pencil and the eraser very inspirational. Parents are like the eraser whereas their children are the pencil. They're always there for their children, cleaning up their mistakes. Sometimes along the way... they get hurt, and become smaller (older, and eventually pass on). Though their children will eventually find someone new (spouse), but parents are still happy with what they do for their children, and will always hate seeing their precious ones worrying, or sad.

This is for all parents out there.....

Stop Child Abuse

Hi folks!

In conjunction with UNICEF Stop Child Abuse campaign, I would like to share about
the acts of child abuse we have read or hear about which I would never want to see to happen again in our society!! The top on the list would be surprisingly is not the heavily-reported physical and sexual abuse, but neglect and abandonment!!!

Over the years, we have heard and read of news of such child abuse cases.According to statistics reported in Malay Mail, there are ALMOST 4,000 children in Malaysia were rescued from various abuses by the Social Welfare Department  from 2008 till July this year.

Now coming back to the Neglect and Abandonment part, I think everyone of us can play a part especially as a parent, including myself.

When I think about it, even I at times committed this "sin" unknowingly!! How often do we check e-mails, browse net or read newspaper when our kids are beside us wanting to share with us their day or ask us about their school assignment or homework?

Now, this might not even considered a big crime to many, but small little neglects can add up to a whole negative energy and feelings to the world of a single child.

So, we should all raise our hand, and practice it right at home to inculcate the Positive value to our kids and STOP CHILD ABUSE effects surrounding our world right now...Create and Grow more LOVE to our younger generation, the Leader of our Earth!

Schedule a Zero-Task day!

Hi folks!

I believe, as parents, we have a long list to do on a stipulated time daily. A single friend used to share with me, " I know how important each task is done in accordance to each sequence and each designated time can be for you all". How aptly put! At that instance, I felt something so true and at the same time feel so ever-considerate this friend of mine is. Very observant indeed!

As parents, we have a timetable to adhere to closely. Every morning, we have to get ourselves ready, get our kids ready for school or nursery, then get our work done on time, head back from work at such time and then cook(if we have the luxury of time and rare discipline!), etc...etc...if any of the task is not accomplish on time or in sequence, our whole day can be disrupted!

Even during holidays, some of us do the same thing. List of tasks to do, places to visit, etc...etc..We have the list even before the holiday starts! Day 1, day 2, day 3...and so forth. Full of itinerary of events!

But did we ever try scheduling for a Zero-Task day in our list? Ever experience the excitement and freedom having a Zero-Task day?

A day to explore, experience and experiment. A day out-of-ordinary can really makes us stay fresh, creative, free and fun once more! A day to let the kids decide what to do, where to go? Let our mind wander and creativity sets in.

Try it! You might find yourself surprised and yearning for such little changes in our daily mundane routine!

Cheers!

I WANT SEVENTH GENERATION PRODUCTS!

Hi folks!

I have learnt so much from all the eco-friendly folks (which comprises largely cloth-diapering mamas, breastfeeding mamas, organic shops owners, vegetarian/vegan friends, etc).

Thus, here's a snapshot of what I have been practising and the eco-friendly products that I have tried using :)

1. eco-friendly laundry ball
Used almost daily. Love it!!! I give it 5 out of 5 stars rating...will not hesitate to get another one once this is up to its usage lifespan(which is 3 years from now!! what a cost-saving product invention!!)

Check out my previous review and write up on this product here.

2. Cloth Pads
Ever since I accumulated my stash of Cloth pad for daily and menstrual period usage.....I have not bought any disposable just yet. I am happy and got used to using these washable pads.

Check out my previous reviews on the use of cloth pad here.

3. Reusable Bags
My collection of reusable bags have grown so much....

From these few(see pic below) to more than 15 of them regularly used for my shopping trips as well as my gift-wrapping/giving option!

I found more and more companies are using reusable bags to store their pamplets and product giveaway which is a thumbs-up gesture all right! We should emulate them and do away with all the unnecessary packaging and try to pack our gift using lovely reusable bags!

 4. Continuous updating myself with green products, practices, and of course giveaways!

Here are some of them:
a. Green Product: from Seventh Generation

These are some of the products I would love to get and try since I am using the non-organic/green ones currently..It's time to switch!

b. Practices

As mentioned in my previous post here, I would love to plant some herbs in my garden and try on the garbage enzynme.

But so far, I have planted the mint at my balcony but have not started on the garbage enzynme. Hope to learn the proper way to do it.]

c. Giveaways

Yep, haha..am always keeping up with green products and practices thus along the way also like to join and share the green products giveaways.

Here's one which is currently running by Cloth Diaper Malaysia with prizes of from Seventh Generation and Lifestyle Green Solutions. Interested? Check out yourself at Cloth Diaper Malaysia!

Cheers to a Greener Lifestyle and Safer Environment!

What I learnt from the HFMD battles?

Hi folks!
My kids were down with Hand Food Mouth Disease(HFMD) again in mid-September 2010. They have had it in year 2009. So this is the second time they had to battle with HFMD.
Obviously I am devastated that they caught it again. But I also learnt a lot from it.
I always believe that knowing the disease well is good so that we can be more well-prepared; physically and mentally to win the battle.
After the first HFMD battle in year 2009, when they caught it the second time, I am more cautious and observant on the symptoms.
When the first doctor reported that it is not HFMD, I am not convince. I went to see another paediatrician to double-confirm. As HFMD is contagious, so I want to make sure whether they have caught it so that I can start quarantine them at home and not spreading the HFMD to other kids. I always believe the parents play an important role during the incubation period. We should not bring the kids out during this period. Some parents aren't aware that once the symtoms disappear, it can still spread. So it is good to read and ask your doctor.
Obvious symptom to watch out for:
  1. Onset of fever. On the first till second day, they will get fever.
  2. Complains of mouth sore.
  3. Eating slower than usual or refusing solids and milk.
  4. Red dots on palms, feet.
  5. Ulcers on mouth and tongue.

Below are some of the important points I learnt and did during the HFMD battle:
  1. Always emphasize the importance of hygience to the children (start from young). No finger-biting and always wash hand before they touch their food.
  2. Parents have to stay clean and healthy too. Frequent hand-washing, keeping ourselves healthy is very important. When I was caring for my HFMD-stricken kids, I make sure I wash my hands frequently,I eat proper meals, drink enough water and took my vitamin C.D
  3. Clean and wash the bed linen, towel, hankerchief, cups that they uses. I replace their toothbrush after they recovered from it.
  4. I made barley water, cook soup daily to replenish their fluid since they cannot take solid and most would even avoid drinking milk for the first 3 days.
  5. I bought lots of yakult and allow them to take ice-cream if that is the only things they are able to swallow in.
For more details on HFMD, you can always google and check out the articles online. One which I referred to is:http://www.sarawak.health.gov.my/hfmd.htm
Stay alert, healthy and strong folks!
Cheers!

Our favourite Tissue Brand and her new Baby

Hi folks!

Normally I am the one who does the "marketing" for household products in my family.

But there are certain brands which DH favours over the rest available in the market.

One being Kleenex® .

DH loves the quality of Kleenex® tissues which he says worth buying over other brands.

For me, I normally grab the "acceptable" brands which is having promotion ..hehe....cost-saving habits!

Now, when we were informed that Kleenex® is introducing her new baby, i.e. The brand new Kleenex® Hand Sanitizing Moist Wipes, we are more than happy to try out this "new baby" of  Kleenex®

After testing it, all I can say is I love the soft yet durable texture, and of course the "pocket-sized" which makes it very handy to place in my handbag for emergency use (of course when it is nice to use, doesn't mean we should use it all the time...think of our environment first!).

I have tried some other brands, some tore at initial retrieval, some tore at first few wipes, some "too wet". This one just fine....

The only thing that took the likings of my children(but not me) is the lovely smell....though it is pleasant smell but I cannot help to think of the "fragrance" behind. hehe...the "Sherlock Holmes" in me...however I find most wet wipes in the market tends to have some kinda smell...don't you think?

So, now if you like to try out this Kleenex tissues or get the limited edition with Disney cartoon prints, you can get at most hypermarkets or major pharmacies.

And yep, you can check out more about the very-much promoted kills 99.XX percent of bacteria, soft on hands and other special goodness marketed for this product!

Cheers to a clean and healthy wipes!

Disclaimer: I received 2 pkts of Kleenex wet wipes to test. All opinion are solely my own experience using it.

Do you Spank your kids?

Hi folks!

Do you spank your kids? I think most of us are brought up with the thought that "Spare the rod, spoilt the kids" concept. And since young, we ourselves might have gone through some sorts of spanking or punishment. But do you agree with such displinary measure?

I don't like to impose physical punishment to my children. However, there are times they can just test your patience and their "boundaries", so how do you tackle this? I must confess when my umpteen warnings go unheaded and what they are doing are causing harm either to themselves or their siblings, at times I might use "spanking" too.

Recently I came across an article in Parenthots, "How can spanking be healthy?" which I find it helpful as reference to us parents.

Here's the excerpt of the articles, for full content, do refer to Parenthots website.

How can spanking be healthy?

8 November 2010

It just seems barbaric to cause pain to a defenceless child. Tell me why you think it is healthy to spank him or her.

Corporal punishment, when used lovingly and properly, is beneficial to a child because it is in harmony with nature itself.

Consider the purpose of minor pain in a child's life and how he learns from it. Suppose two-year-old Peter pulls on a tablecloth and with it comes a vase of roses that cracks him between the eyes. From this pain, he learns that it is dangerous to pull on the tablecloth unless he knows what sits on it. When he touches a hot stove, he quickly learns that heat must be respected.

If he lives to be a hundred years old, he will never again reach out and touch the red-hot coils of a stove. The same lesson is learned when he pulls the doggy's tail and promptly gets a neat row of teeth marks across the back of his hand, or when he climbs out of his high chair when Mum isn't looking and discovers all about gravity

During the childhood years, he typically accumulates minor bumps, bruises, scratches, and burns, each one teaching him about life's boundaries. Do these experiences make him a violent person? No! The pain associated with these events teaches him to avoid making the same mistakes again. This pain mechanism is a valuable vehicle for instruction.

When a parent administers a reasonable spanking in response to wilful disobedience, a similar nonverbal message is being given to the child. He must understand that there are not only dangers in the physical world to be avoided. He should also be wary of dangers in his social world, such as defiance, sassiness, selfishness, temper tantrums, behaviour that puts his life in danger, that which hurts others, etc. The minor pain associated with this deliberate misbehaviour tends to inhibit it, just as discomfort works to shape behaviour in the physical world. Neither conveys hatred. Neither results in rejection. Neither makes the child more violent.

Lesson 3 from Parenthood- Respect

Hi folks!
Have you all faced difficulties in disciplining your children? I am sure most of us do, well unless you are blessed with angel-like kids!
One of the thing I try to practice is to explain with my kids. First, explain, next explain again, third time, issue warning. I dislike the idea of using physical punishment such as cane or commonly known as "rotan" in Malay. Even though there is saying " Spare the rod, spoil the kids." Nevertheless, I find that such practice might not work in this era or on all kids nowadays. Kids these days are smart to learn and pick up or even point out what you did with what you preach.
Are we, as an adult, able to practice what we preach? If we don't, do not be so fast to reprimand our kids. They are bright enough to point out our mistakes too. And if they do, " Are we humble enough to accept our mistakes and apologise as what we expect our kids to do when they committed the offence?"
I felt as parents, we ought to practice RESPECT for our children too. Then, we will find it easier to discipline them. By respecting our children, we are showing that we value their input and comments. Thus, they will also listen to our preaching.

There is not one but many occasions that my children taught and reminded me again and again things I have taught them, yet something which I have forgotten to practice them.
Let me illustrate some of the scenarios I experienced with my children which many of you might have witness in your kids too.
Scenario 1:
Mom: KY, please keep your books if you finish reading them.
KY: Silent, continue doing other stuff...
Mom: KY, will you playing with your toys and keep your books first?
KY: Silent, continue playing.
Mom: KY!!!!! KEEP YOUR BOOKS NOW! DO YOU HEAR ME????!!!
KY: Mommy, why are you SHOUTING at me. It is rude.
Mom: [shy]....
Scenario 2:
Mom: Shone, how many ounces of milk you like to have tonight?
Shone: 7oz mom. If too much, I cannot finish. Cannot waste right, mom?
Mom: Yes, Shone. Good boy. [feeling proud and happy he remembered my preaching]
(Note: I normally asked them as sometimes they might have taken some snacks at night which make them rather full to consume their normal milk intake at night. This makes them feel respected and avoid mommy getting upset when they cannot finish their milk)
How about you? Any success stories or precaution to share with us on RESPECT?
Love to hear from you!
Cheers!
