Vocab 8: What new words I learn from the "news" today?

Hi folks,

Here's new word I learn from the "news" today?

The Opposition Leader stated in his affidavit that his lawyer S.N. Nair received a letter dated July 18 from police that Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, former Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Musa Hassan and senior police officer Senior Asst Comm Datuk Mohd Rodwan Mohd Yusof did not want to be interviewed but would be present in court if subpoenaed.
(Source: TheStarOnline)

A subpoena (play /sə(b)ˈpnə/) is a writ by a government agency, most often a court, that has authority to compel testimony by a witness or production of evidence under a penalty for failure. There are two common types of subpoena:

  1. subpoena ad testificandum orders a person to testify before the ordering authority or face punishment. The subpoena can also request the testimony to be given by phone or in person.
  2. subpoena duces tecum orders a person or organization to bring physical evidence before the ordering authority or face punishment. This is often used for requests to mail copies of documents to requesting party or directly to court.

If I happy, and you know it

   Hi folks!

I read about Sheoh Yan's entry on If I happy, and you know it and like to pen down mine too...so hmm..perhaps by listing out, I consciously taking note of those events which makes me happy and thus do it more often and consistently..hehe

Now, let's begin:

If I happy, and you know it,
  • I had a good sleep. (I told my hubby before that I am truly like a kid, if I don't get enough sleep, I go cranky :P)
  • I managed to do some exercise whether jogging, sweat out in the gym, dancing, yoga, etc ( I remember reading somewhere  that exercising creates happy hormone :D so folks, let's commit to our constant exercise regime! )
  • I get to do my reading (it's certainly a luxury to me even to be able to flip through 3 pages of a book..that's why I love blog-hopping via my trusty Google Reader; enjoy having my daily dose of reading short entries from all the blogs I subscribed to)
  • I managed to achieve tasks listed under my To Do List
  • I managed to overcome something I thought it is impossible
  • I am listening to some happy songs
  • I spend some time and effort to dress up
  • I go out of my comfort zone and routine; and did something extraordinary
  • I made a good purchase/great bargain
  • I had a good chat or heart-to-heart talk with someone I cared about
  • I just had my favourite food (e.g. ice-cream) or just receive a hug/kiss (from kids/hubby)
Basically, I am quite like Yan too; easily happy/satisfied. My basic needs are:
  • Good Sleep
  • Daily Shower (either long or quick one; shower is the first thing i do once i reach home, no matter how hungry or tired I am as I always feel refreshed and energized; not to mentioned destress after I had my shower)
  • Hot meals
A happy mom = happy mom & wife

So folks, have you been fulfilling your basic needs to remain happy?

Why not make your list too! And enjoy...**smile**

Cheers!

Vocab 8: What new words I learn from the "news" today

Hi folks!

New words learn today:

The High Court has declared lawyer Matthias Chang a "vexatious litigant" .
(Source: http://thestar.com.my/news/story.asp?file=/2011/7/20/courts/9132950&sec=courts)

Vexatious litigation is legal action which is brought, regardless of its merits, solely to harass or subdue an adversary. It may take the form of a primary frivolous lawsuit or may be the repetitive, burdensome, and unwarranted filing of meritless motions in a matter which is otherwise a meritorious cause of action. Filing vexatious litigation is considered an abuse of the judicial process and may result in sanctions against the offender.
(Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vexatious_litigation)

Hmm..this is more like a law/ court term...

Let's see if we separate them, what would be the meaning:

vex·a·tious/vekˈsāSHəs/Adjective

1. Causing or tending to cause annoyance, frustration, or worry.
2. Denoting an action or the bringer of an action that is brought without sufficient grounds for winning, purely to cause annoyance to the defendant.
(Source: http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/vexatious

lit·i·gant/ˈlitəgənt/

Noun: A person involved in a lawsuit.
Adjective: Involved in a lawsuit: "the parties litigant".
(Source: http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/litigant)

Another two new words learnt...

Cheers!

When two persons say it is not right...

Does it means it's really not right? Look from within yourself to find the answers... Majority voices do not equal to ultimate answer. Take with a pinch of salt.

Malaysian women 16th most stressed in the world

Hi folks!

Wow, when i go thru' my daily reading ritual, this is the first article I came across at TheStarOnline.

Here's the excerpt:
NEW YORK: Malaysian women are ranked 16th most stressed in the world, according to a recent study.
The study, which researched the buying and other social behavioural patterns of women in 21 developing and emerging economies of the world, reveals that women all over the world feel stressed out, with women in the so-called emerging countries facing greater stress than women in developed countries.
India has the world's most stressed women, says the study prepared by information and media company Nielsen.
Malaysian women (44%) rank 16th in the list, while women in Thailand share 15th spot with South Korea (45%). Japanese women (52%) rank 12th while mainland Chinese women (51%) rank 13th.
For full article, go to TheStarOnline.

Do you agree folks? At certain level, I do agree...

Cheers and hope we are able to reduce or manage our stress level well today!

Vegetarian Meals @Temple

Hi folks!

Today is Kuan Yin birthday..are u having vegetarian meals today?

The nineteenth day of the second month of the lunar year is the birthday of Guanyin. On that day, young men and women gather to burn joss sticks and worship either in the temple hall or in the court area. Some offer oil for Guanyin's ever-burning lamp and pray for health and peace; others offer long silk scrolls in the hope of bearing a son. If a son is born, the parents will put him under Guanyin's lotus seat to proclaim their faith in Buddhism and make the baby the adopted child of Guanyin. By doing so, they think Guanyin will bless the child with longevity. Monks and nuns set up assemblies in honour of Guanyin. The places of worship are solemn and grand. Incense and flowers are also offered to Guanyin.
Women eat a vegetarian diet from the first until the nineteenth of the second month, the birthday of Guanyin. This is called Guanyin's vegetarian fast. This practice is observed again from 1st to 19th of the sixth and the ninth months in the lunar year.
(Source: http://traditions.cultural-china.com/en/14T35T1264.html)
Last full moon my colleagues brought me to a temple @ OUG to taste the food & pay by donation...hmm..something special yet nostalgic to me as I recalled my mom used to visit such temple during the full & new moon to pack us some yummy vegetarian dishes when we were young ;) how about you? Do u regularly observe vegetarian diet as well? Try it..it's good for ur soul & health (no matter what religion, faith or belief you are)!
Think: Plant-based diet, a sustainable diet for a better world, eco-friendly diet ;)

Cheers!

Young kids should be banned from

Hi folks,

My blogger buddy and mentor, Ai Lian tagged me on her entry of Young Kids Should be Banned from. Here are my takes:

Young kids should be Banned from:
1. Having free flow of sweets, soft drink and chocolates anywhere (whether from fridge@home or kids events/cool aunties)
2. Having too much "writing/copying" homework
5. TV and computers, before finishing their homework and revision.
6. Shouting at each other and at their parents
7. Bringing too much pocket money to school
8. Taking over parents' laptop, iPhone, iPad every single day (hehe)
9. Having too many tests/exams
10. Having astonished kilos of school bag(not more than 1/4 of their weight should be more reasonable) to lug to school everyday

In fact, the list can be more..but it's Monday and my brain is banned from going further than 10  (hehe)

So, hereby I am getting EVERYONE.... Tag yourself, anyone, everyone who read this(even if you are not a mom yet..but certainly am an uncle, cousins, aunties of kids ;)

Enjoy the free-flow of fun..listing out the unimaginable list of yours!

Touching moments

Hi folks, One day mommy asked back KY, " Don't you think mom work non-stop without rest? Isn't she tired?" at response of her request to perform some task. KY replied,"Mom, when I am 7, I will cook dinner for you ok. I will help you." (why 7? Guess it's 'cos we often forbid her to hold real knife or manage the gas stove. And she must have thought 7 yrs old is big enough to handle it since mom often said when you are "big enough" (KY asked: 7 yrs old? Mom said yeah) would get her a trolley bag. So, 7 yrs old means a "big girl" to KY. Old enough to do many stuff..

ECX, Winner of Showdown 2011

Hi folks,

Is there any programme which you enjoyed together with your children(besides Disney and cartoons that is).

Lately, my kids and I are excitedly watching 8TV's Showdown 2011.

And, so happened it was Final Showdown 2011 last night (yea, i only watched as and when I found the time so did not actually set the time slot in my mind).

Last night after revising and doing homework with KY, suddenly my son shouted, "Mom, it's Showdown!!"  as he saw the Showdown 2011 flashed across the tv.

haha..he loves to sing along as well as watching the dance movement.

Anyhow, it was a really good show ...and the team which I supported(so is KY) actually won!

Yippee!

Five-member Elecoldxhot danced their way into the hearts of the audience at 8TV's Showdown 2011 finale at i-City, Shah Alam last night, taking home a cool RM50,000.
More news at Malaymail here.

Now, before the first Showdown 2010, people stereotypically has not very good impression on Street Dance. Neither do I..but if you look at how these people dance their heart out and the comradeship they have between team members and their competitors, it's a good sport after all (if you do consider dance as a sport).

And this year Showdown actually has quite a good mix of teams. From the all-girls team (PANIC) which my gal, KY, greatly adores to the traditionally-inspired street dance by the BounceStepper team to a technically-gusto Elecoldxhot of course! They made me have a different view on this activity ;)

And, guess what I voted for them too....out of my respect for their skills and passion....my first ever vote for Elecoldxhot..hehe..guess every votes counts rite ;)..haha..so yea..happy that they won!

Now, I am pondering and thinking how I could bring my gal to witness the Cheer 2011 at Bukit Jalil Stadium on 24 July 2011, another event that I am very interested in..since my school days...

Will reveal another story about the craze on dancing soon in coming entries..

Till then folks!

Did you have something which ignites or rejuvenates your passion lately? I did..;) from dancing..

Cheers!

Inconsiderate Hands-behind-the wheels

Inconsiderate Hands-behind-the wheels

It can be really annoying when we met with such drivers (a reminder to myself not to commit such inconsiderate actions):
1. Purposely or simply to save fuel by going less than 40km/j when the traffic lights turned green...pls. Do it when yellow light is on or when driving around neighborhood where there are kids cycling around

2. Double or triple park, blocking other cars just to save time, save the hassles of finding a further carpark spot
Don't you think others do not wish to waste time honking and wait for you to move your car away when they need to go off?

3. Parking or stopping abruptly at the corner after cars turn in. It is very dangerous as cars at the back won't know or expect there is car "parking" illegally or stopping as they wish abruptly in front of the turn

4. Cutting through or in localized way, "potong" without putting on signal

5. Cross over others' lane simply 'cos the lane he suppose to be have longer queue..dangerous indeed

What are dangerous 'stunt' you have seen?

Patience and love save lives on the road...

Everyone is someone's child, any life lost will certainly break the heart of the parent.

It only takes perhaps one more minute to let the car past through and it takes more time and trouble if any disputes or mishaps happened.

This is something I have always remind myself.

Drive safely. Be safe on the road!

Cheers!

Lessons Learned

Hi folks,

Something which I have been noticing about communication between myself and people around me.

Here are the lesson learned:

-When communicating with people, first invite them into your heart(with God already inside your heart at all times). To be at One with them and to be able to connect with them or put ourselves in their shoes.

- E.g. people wish or ask about you, do you ask them back how they are doing?
- Are we able to understand the message behind their words?

E.g. children. Do we invite our spouse in our heart or put only Me, Myself and I in our heart in our daily encounters and communication:- if yes, there's bound to be conflicts and disagreement as we failed to communicate as One and put love foremost in our relationship with others

What are the things you learned today? Do share :)

Cheers!

Do what you need to or......

Hi folks,

One day I was torn between two choices to make. And this thought came to me...

Do I...

Do what I should ...

-OR-

Do what I need to....

-OR-

Should do what I need to................
Need to do what I should do................

Am I making you more confused now?

Take for a simple example....
You are feeling hungry and craves for fried Indian noodle...
But, you are having slight sorethroat and cough....and you have decided to eat healthier, less oil, less salt, less fried food....more fruits and vegetables.

So what do you pick? A yummy fried Indian noodle...or a nourishing noodle soup or salad?

Or...you are feeling stress..and you think you need to listen to some soothing music to calm down...yet you knew you also running out of time to catch up on some audio talks which you have to complete before the due date.

So what do you choose? Do you choose what you need...or what you should?

Let me know what you would react or do in such situation...

Love to hear your wise wisdom way!

Cheers!
