How has Parenthood transformed my life….for the better?

Hi folks!

Most would felt that parenthood does have its share of sacrifices to make. Along the way, we also pick up a lot of treasures. Some of them are as follows:

1.       I am more careful of:

a.       My THOUGHTS

b.      My ACTION

c.       MY WORDS

Because more often than not, there are more than a pair of innocent eyes watching and feeling our every single actions, words and thoughts every single day!

2.       I am more tolerate of:

a.       Noises

b.      Dirty poos

c.       Piles of unwashed dishes, laundry,….you name it!

There is a saying that goes, "For the hand that rocks the cradle. Is the hand that rules the world." This pair of hand used to be the one who runs away at the sight of poo when he or she is still single.

3.       I am more thoughtful of:

a.       Other noisy, sick or curious kids

b.      Preparing kids-friendly food during parties

c.       Arranging gatherings out of kids' napping hour

There are more than one time where I was "helped" and "touched" by simple gestures from friends who are parents, ranging from a pot of pumpkin porridge prepared specially for my young children, a spare clean clothes to replace my kids soaking-wet clothes, etc. Thoughtfulness of a parent goes a long way!

4.       I am more organized in terms of:

a.       My time

b.      My travelling gear

c.       My travelling time and distance

Every minute, every item and every km counts when you have kid(s). Think of schooling kids, first aid kit, crying kids.

5.       I am more patient of:

a.       Answering endless repetitive questions

b.      Entertaining active kids

c.       Guests with kids and were late for gatherings

If you have got no patience, you'll either get heart-attack, hypertension or miserable life.

6.       I am more discipline of:

a.       Getting the kids and myself to wash our hands

b.      Getting the kids to sleep during routine bedtime

c.       Preparing healthy home-cooked meals; reducing or keeping away junk food and soft drinks

Parents play a big part as a good role model in everything they are telling their kids to do and not to do.

These are the additional gift of parenthood. Being a parent, we mold ourselves along the way.

How about you? What has parenthood brings to you?

Think about it and give thanks for the blessings!

Cheers!

New MacBook Pro is here!

Hi folks,

My partner has been eyeing on getting a new MacBook Pro and now it is released in Malaysia.

He has been an Apple user since he started working after high school with his uncle.

And, he has developed into big Apple fans ever since..

His mom even got him his first Mac at MYR8000 then..it was real expensive then...now the price has been more affordable.

DH is a graphic designer and has been using Mac for his work...whereas I worked in IT line.

We never really did invest in our own proper laptop as due to our profession, we always have our company laptop or some desktop to use at home.

Now, investing in a new MacBook pro means this gonna be our real own laptop :P

Hubby been involving in preparing some slides, graphics and stuff...and I have slowly accustomed to using Mac.

Getting a pc-based would be a big no-no for him..

What about you? What do you think about MacBook Pro?

Worth spending the moolahs?

hehe..soon i will be exploring the imovies and stuff :) Will I turned into a Mac junkie too? High possibility...:P

Cheers!

Language Learning Goal

Hi folks!

During my younger days (college years), I have been learning, practising and volunteering in Interpretation and Translation (I&T) work.

I have not has the chance to undergo a proper I &T courses as those courses are quite expensive for me then (being a sponsored student-under scholarship).

After I graduated and started working as a Training and Support Executive in a local college, I chance upon such courses. But alas, I did not sign up for it as I still has some remaining tuition fees to pay off(my scholarship is only for my 2 year course, final year was surviving on loan from my two aunts).

Having the chance to practice my  I & T then, interpreting for foreign visitors and translating some short articles and songs lyrics, I found my strong interest in it. I have to thank my two English teachers, Ms. Ng (during UPSR year in primary 6) and Mrs. Thiang (in Form 1 for giving me the first 3 Readers' Digest magazine that started my strong passion in English).

But, in order to be a good translator and interpreter, the basic is to master at least two languages. During my volunteering period, I had to do mostly in Chinese- English and some in Malay-English. My lack of literacy in Chinese makes me not as fast in interpreting during live talks.

So, one of my goal then is to master my Chinese. This is especially important as we intend to send KY to a Chinese primary school in 2 years' time. So, I got 2 years to brush up my Chinese.

Some of the actions I have taken are:

1.       SMS in Chinese

2.       Chat/Discuss in Chinese (type in Gtalk, IM+, etc)

3.       Writing and Reading in Chinese with KY (recite Di Zi Gui scripture together)

4.       And now…I will venture into blogging in Chinese or shall I say to include some chinese characters(with translation of course!) in my blog entries…

5.       In future, I like to revise my German(I did basic German course at Goethe Institute…yep..I love languages and culture!) and hopefully in Spanish too (am mixing with some Spanish friends and working counterparts now).

So that is my Language Learning goals for the year…

What about you? Anything you like to pick up this year?

Do share about it!

活到老, 学到老.

Live and Learn till old age.

( a famous saying in Chinese families, literally means one should learn and learn till one is very old.)

Magnitude 6.3 earthquake hits New Zealand

Wow...folks, u heard the news?

This is my first time hearing ...

Magnitude 6.3 earthquake hits New Zealand!!!

But in TheStarOnline it says:
"New Zealand sits on the Pacific "ring of fire" - an arc of earthquake and volcanic zones stretching from Chile in South America through Alaska and down through the South Pacific. It records more than 14,000 earthquakes a year - but only about 150 are felt by residents, and fewer than 10 a year do any damage. "

I hope our fellow brothers and sisters back in NZ are fine....

Pray...for them...

Helpful Habits for Bloggers

Hi folks!
Bloggers have such a habits that sometimes it's makes them so easy to be spotted!

Now these are the helpful habits that I find it useful for me:
  1. Jot down interesting ideas right away!
This will save you from losing the ideas once you have time to start writing.
2.       Stay alert and interested.
You'll often come across events/news from the media like radio, tv, newspaper or event from strangers which is interesting enough to blog about.
3.       Snap, snap, snap interesting pictures.
You'll never know when you'll need it for a blog entry. At least it save you time and cost (for copyrighted materials) to search or use the pictures of others.
4.       Apply blog watermark on pictures uploaded.
If it belongs to you, it's a good practice to watermark it to protect your privacy and rights.
5.       Carry around your blogger name card/add in your undersigned. Networking and spread your blog around.
How about you? Any blog habits which you do practice? Please share your views!

Cheers and have another fruitful blogging year ahead!

Happy Chap Goh Mei everyone!

Hi folks!
Very fast...today is the last day of Chinese New Year; i.e. Chap Goh Mei/Meh...
What is Chap Goh Mei?

From wikipedia:

Chap Goh Meh or Tzap Goh Mei (Chinese: ; pinyin: shí wǔ míng; literally "fifteen night") represents the fifteenth and final day of the Lunar New Year period as celebrated by Chinese migrant communities. The term is from the Hokkien dialect and refers to the fifteenth day of the first month, which is the occasion of the first full moon of the New Year.
The occasion is marked by feasting and various festivities, including the consumption of tangyuan and Kue Keranjang. In traditional Chinese culture, it is also celebrated as the Lantern Festival or the Shang Yuan Festival. In Southeast Asia, however, it coincides with the Chinese Valentine's Day.[1] It is also when young unmarried women gather to toss tangerines into the sea, in a hope that their future spouse will pick it up – a custom that originated in Penang, Malaysia. In the past, this was also the only day that unmarried ladies could be seen with their partners.

So, how is your CNY thus far? Had good time visiting your family and friends?
This year I managed to visit some close buddies and felt really satisfied and grateful as there was a year my kids take turn to fall sick...thus we were confined at home from 1st to 3rd day of CNY!
So, anyone going to Klang or anywhere to toss tangerines/mandarin oranges tonite? hehe...

Hope everyone will have a good and fruitful year in this Year of Rabbit!

Cheers!

Creating Memories to foster learning

Hi folks!

Thinking of memories, what comes into your mind immediately?

Childhood memories? University life? Working, wedding, childbirth?

Memories comes when we experience something which carries weight in our mind, our emotion, our body perhaps.

Think of the time we first ride a bicycle, when we first started dating, our first childbirth, etc. These are experiences that carry weight in our mind.

What kind of memories are we facilitating in our child’s learning experiences?

Is it filled of fun, laughter and cheers? Or is it full of fear, threats and disappointment?

I was thinking about this when I was coaching my daughter in her homework. She hated all the writings she needs to do daily (in fact I don’t like it either). And thus, she was dilly-dally in her effort to complete her homework until last minute, before turning to bed. Of course I am furious at her habits. But I also do not wish to use threats and reprimand which might make her even more displease of such task. How can we enhance and make the experience more enriching?

There are times when we have no choice in the things or task that we need to do. If we can only inject some fun and sense into it. Perhaps make it more bearable, if not enjoyable.

Learning by play has been shared by many parenting advocates. I am totally support it. Whenever I need to turn a boring chore to something interesting; create a game out of it is the answer! Children are naturally interested in having play rather than chore.

Besides that, creating memories can also come from daily task. The following are some of the memories I can relate to:

1.       Cooking together
2.       Cleaning the house to prepare for festive new year, party or special gathering
3.       Decorating the room and house together
4.       – add in your list-

Seems that the keyword here is TOGETHER. So let’s share the moments together with our children even when they watch cartoon as we can indeed turn it into memories and learning experience by being together with them!

Cheers!
