This is no joke

Hi folks!

Have we ever left some expired medicine in the fridge? Do we separate the medicine meant for adults from the one meant for children?

Do we double-check on the medicine before we feed to our child.

During the process of tending to a sick child/person, one can get rather tired and lacking in attention to details like this.

I, for once, mistook my daughter's fever medicine as my son. Luckily both are meant for children. But not so for certain medication especially those for very young children.

Previously we saw and found out that the usual Vicks sold in Malaysia market is not suitable for child under 2 (if you read the precaution printed on the label). I think not many people aware of this since we have been using it since young. Then, DH & I discovered there's actually BabyVicks sold for kids age 3 months and above. But at that time, it's not available in Malaysia market. So we got our friends to get it for us from US & UK on their trip home.

Now, this article from TheStar Online reminds me and hopefully all caregivers to be watchful over medicine we feed to the child.

A two-month-old baby boy died after his mother fed him the wrong medicine for fever, reported Harian Metro.
The mother, in her late 20s, rushed her baby to Hospital Ampang, Selangor when he began to vomit five minutes after ingesting the medicine on Monday.
The baby was already unconscious when he arrived at the hospital, according to a source.
"Medical officers gave the baby a CPR but he vomited a lot of water."
Four hours later, the baby died.

Let's be more careful and tactful at all times!

Cheers and have a safe & lovely day folks!

Amazing Azizul

Hi folks,

The first thing I used to read on the newspaper is the Sports news featuring our local athletes. Being active in sports during my school days, I love watching the sports live as well. Nothing can beat the excitement of cheering for your team. At that moment of time, colours, races, nationalities does not matter.....

And I have been following the news of the cyclist, Azizul, whereby his injury in the recent UCI World Cup in Manchester with a splinter pierced through his leg, a truly tough guy! Cycling: Najib: Azizul's bravery an example for all http://www.nst.com.my/nst/articles/41CHJKFDJ/Article/#ixzz1QWdQvNfC

Now, today's news at TheStarOnline is showing :

Azizul returns from injury to seek historic gold medal in China

Amazing toughness, world-class discipline...a true sportmanship...

I would love my kids to dabble in sports as well as one truly gains a lot while participating in sports!

Cheers to the national team!

Parent Challenge #-Am I progressing or regressing?

Hi folks,

I blew my top again yesterday & this morning. Why? I was totally depleted of energy when the kids are still singing away loudly at 11.15pm. And this morning my son woke me up at 4am to construct his train set, watch his Ben 10, play on iPad... Yep I stopped myself from blog-hopping and switch with reading the newsletter from BMS organic..which is good...it reminds me whether I am progressing or regressing in terms of healthy diet for me and the kids..how much am I doing for the environment? I am turning in my recycleables and stocking up my organic later...positive "punishment" for once which I am benefitting..but still lotsa work to do on NOT SHOUTING or fuming at the kids antics..wish me all the Best!

Parenting Challenge #1

Hi folks!

I am challenging myself on the Parenting spectrum. Interested to join me?

Human cells renew every 3 months so the folk says...guess that is why most supplements would encourage you to take it for at least 3 mths to see the results?

I am now challenging myself to use other alternatives and positive measure to replace:
SHOUTING and RAISING my VOICE at the kids

So, in order to make it work i am taking a deep breath each time my "temperature" rising. And made sure I control my tongue.

What if I failed...I have to apologize to the kids, excused myself and do something positive (like spending full time with them, no blog-hopping, no internet, no TV)...those are the only luxury daily...which I think can be cut off...

What if I passed the challenge? I would have pick up more than one ways to communicate positively with the children and hopefully reduce the "damage" done to the kids; and I do notice kids opened up to you more when you treat them as your friend. When your friend made mistake, you do not raise your friend at them, do you?

So, yes...wish me luck on my first self-imposed Parenting challenge.

Start from now...and with weekly reports on how i fare!

Send me all your best wishes and love everyone!

Cheers!

Special Father's Day meal

Hi folks!

Yesterday night, hubby brought back special "lemang" and a special "teh tarik" said to be famous at a particular small town.

Lemang is a traditional Malay food made of glutinous rice and coconut milk and cooked in a hollowed bamboo stick lined with banana leaves in order to prevent the rice from sticking to the bamboo
(Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lemang)

Teh tarik (literally "pulled tea" or 拉茶 in Chinese) is a hot Malaysian tea beverage which can be commonly found in restaurants, outdoor stalls and kopi tiams in Malaysia, Singapore and Brunei. Its name is derived from the pouring process of "pulling" the drink during preparation. It is made from black tea and condensed milk.
(Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Teh_tarik)

As it is also Father's Day, we had lemang with vegetarian curry as the sauce (just the way DH likes it). To cool it down, we prepared our favourite cocktail and nata de coco desserts.

DH said some people dip lemang in kaya. I was thinking what is the kids going to eat lemang with? As Shone is asleep(yep, again...at each family celebration, so coincidently!), KY is happily eating the curry potatoes instead of the lemang.

And, we have some leftovers for tomorrow's (today) lunch. Note the baguette is one I had bought after my gym session. KY ate half loaf dipping into mixed sauce I had leftover from the salad dressings= lemon+mixed herbs + braggs liquid aminos+ extra virgin olive oil..it TASTE YUMMY!!!

Now, how do you usually have your lemang? Please do share. And how does your kids eat it?

Overall, it is a quiet, simple yet fulfilling Father's Day meal for us, in a very Malaysian style ;)

How has your celebration been? Hope it was heartwarming too.

Cheers!

Lovely Irresistible CHEAP & CHIC ORGANIZER SET

Hi folks,

Just thought of sharing this with you.

I owned a similar set from Gin & Jacqie...absolutely loving it!

Now, I saw this great deal from Gin & Jacqie (valid till 19 June 2011), that shopoholic & practical organizer me is getting ITCHY!!!

BUT, i have limited my budget for at least these two months to nothing but "necessary" items. Since I still have my set...it's not under
"necessary" category...so ...well..i have to close my eyes but not my mouth...to share the deal with it..'cos it's such a good bargain.

The original price is RM49.90 for one i think..when i saw it at one of the BIG stationery shops at Bangsar(sorry forgot the name).

So ladies, if you always find yourself forgetting to bring your nick nacks or left it at some of the "other" bags you owned. It's good time to get this
chic organizer, plus it's on a real bargain price (yep, i am not given any goodies or perks from them for saying this...)

Check it out at Gin & Jacqie for this set!

Cheers and happy shopping and organising your life!

How would you all react in such scenario?

Hi folks!

Parenting is such a lifelong learning experience. At every point of their life, we are learning a lot.

Taking care a newborn, tending to toddlerhood, juggling with weaning, potty-training, preparing solid food, choosing a babysitter, a nursery, a school, a college and a university. How about getting to know their new friends, their girlfriend or boyfriend and next learning to communicate and mingle with our daughter or son-in-law.

There are many scenarios which we are learning.

Below are some of the incidents which makes me think and wonder, " How should I react?"
  1. There are tissues paper lying around in front of the lift. Being taught to pick up rubbish, your kids wanted to pick it up. Would you let them be or what would you react? (I was having a phobia, thinking what kinds of germs or viruses would have left in the tissues. Would it be someone who have sneeze on it and litter it around? I did not managed to stop my kids in time to pick the tissues up; but I made sure they washed their hands immediately.)
  2. Your independent and helpful 2-year-old child wanted to help you with the washing of dirty dishes. But you are running low both in time and patience. How would you react to their offer of help? (I said, thank you boy for offering your help, but maybe you can help me the next round as we ought to rush to work/school now)
  3. Your 5-year-old daughter requests to buy lipsticks and nail-polish; and wanted to wear them to school(nursery). What would you respond?(Oh, why do you thought of having one? ...And my gal revealed that it's 'cos her classmate are having one too. So I said, those are meant for adults...let me try and see if I can find any for children ok?)
  4. Your two toddlers are fighting with the new toys which are meant to be shared. None would agree to share. How would you manage such situation? (Please share your views here)
  5. I believe the lists would go on till they grow up to be a responsible adult, married with children and so on....
And we will need to think before we react to each of this scenario.

So now I like to pose the questions to you, "What would you do in such scenario?"

This post would be more as a trigger point for us to ponder and question ourselves and share with others as well.

Cheers!

Moment of Silence

Hi folks!

Finally get rid of the gum pain. Just back from the dentist. Phew... This is the second time got reprimanded by the dentist.

The first one happened 4 yrs back when I delayed the surgery to remove my wisdom tooth as I was pregnant then, not suitable to take x-ray.

This time round cos my tooth decay was so bad and I did not see the dentist in time..last week I went it was closed ...plus I was rushing two document deadlines(oh did I say I am a Technical Writer by the way) couldn't possibly take another day off when it was re-opened the next two days..oh well..

Their reprimand were done while pulling out my tooth.. So it was met with moment of silence since I can't defend myself so to speak...lol...now I know why the dentist like to lecture during or after pulling teeth :P

Anyway, I must say I don't intend to "talk back" anyhow. 'cos it is quite true that most of us only went to see the dentist when the condition was real bad. We do not practice visit the dentist once or twice a year. Not to mention how costly private dentist can be... Well.. They studied and paid high tuition fees to be a dentist...so I guess it is a return of their hard work and the money spent.

Now coming back to dentist stories, this lady dentist whom I met last year to remove my wisdom tooth is real fast & steady. The whole ordeal lasted less than 10mins compared to the private one I had(costing MYR350 & more than 40 mins for one wisdom tooth).

Maybe it's women natural tolerance to pain, I don't really feel that painful after the procedure...but am silently feeling grateful as the constant gum swelling, gum pain and migraine will soon leave me..

Nevertheless will take all the necessary steps to ensure fast healing..Vit. C, bed rest, no heavy carrying(include kids..),salt water light rinse, soft food and hygiene(frequent change of clean cotton..

Till then moment of silence for today..

Cheers!

Toddler dies in bathtub

Hi folks,

I am sure many of us parents have heard of the danger of young children playing with water, even as shallow as it is...

When i saw the news today about a two-year-old girl was found drowned in a tub in a bathroom of a nursery in Paya Terubon, it makes my heart shudder.

Again we should never let down our guards, parents and caregivers alike.

Always teach the children to keep safe and babyproof their surrounding..

Have an insightful day!

Vocab 6: What new words I learn from the "news" today?

 Hi folks,

Another new word learn from the news today:

"Fernandes announced that he had made a bid for the club on Twitter on Wednesday, but Sullivan dismissed the offer as so 'derisory' it was hardly worth bothering about."

derisory [dɪˈraɪsərɪ -zərɪ]adj
1. subject to or worthy of derision, esp because of being ridiculously small or inadequate

Cheers and Happy Learning daily!

Disney Junior is coming to town!

Hi folks,

You better be good, you better watch out!

Disney Junior is coming to town....

If you are following Playhouse Disney(PHD) with your children, you might noticed somehow the stories are cater more for pre-schoolers from around 3-5. But sometimes, I do noticed children around 5-7 also needs such educational programme instead of the more mature type which is more for older kids age around 9-12.

They are like in a transitional age. The PHD shows might be a tad little "childish" for them, yet those shows meant for 9-12 are a little too "mature" for them.

Thus, the people at Disney has come up with Disney Junior, a new channel brand which replaces the Playhouse Disney brand on ASTRO channel 613 on July 11, 2011.

With the new programming, Disney Junior will not only appeal to preschoolers 2–5 years old, but also to older kids 6–7 years old, and their parents.
July 11, 2011 New Premieres!
First off...premiering alongside Disney Junior at 1.00pm is a brand new animated series, Jake and the Never Land Pirates - a music-filled interactive treasure hunt that introduces a crew of kid pirates, leader Jake and pals Izzy and Cubby, and follows their Never Land adventures as they work to outwit two infamous characters, the one and only Captain Hook and Smee from Disney’s classic Peter Pan.  The series teaches your little ones about teamwork, problem-solving and physical activity.

Popular programs like Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, Handy Manny and Special Agent Oso will continue to air on Disney Junior. We can also look forward to new episodes of these shows, as well as brand new programs.

Aren't you excited of this new exciting changes to come?

I do, and especially after the preview of what's coming in year 2012 by the Nancy Kanter, the Sr. Vice President of Disney Junior Worldwide the other night together with  a group of lovely mommy bloggers....

I am looking forward to what's in store for us the coming year especially on "The Poem is..." which introduces well-liked poems to the children narrated by stars like Jennifer Gardner, Katie Holmes, Vanessa Williams, etc.

Stay tuned folks on the new Disney Junior in July 2011~

Cheers!
